2021: A Story of Goodness, Faith, And Stewardship

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

It never ceases to amaze me as we turn one calendar page to the next how we can clearly see God’s providence at work. The year 2021, with its joys and challenges, will forever be linked to 2020 through a global pandemic timeline that gives us pause and begs us to take stock of what’s important in our lives. What rose from the collective hardship of the past year was generosity. A generosity of spirit to relieve the suffering of others; a generosity of resources shared with each other; and a generosity that made 2021 a year like no other with faithful people increasing their support for Catholic Charities, Catholic Education, and Catholic Worship and Formation. Thank you for your substantial commitment to supporting and sustaining our work in the Diocese of Cleveland. Thank you for helping to fulfill the Gospel command of Jesus that we love one another as he has loved us.

This annual report tells the story of the inherent goodness, faith, and stewardship of the tens of thousands of faithful benefactors who made gifts in support of the mission of the Church in Northeast Ohio. I invite you to read about the people whose lives have been changed because of your contributions. Then, I invite you to visit www.catholiccommunity.org/shepherd for the Heart of a Shepherd campaign capstone publication. More than 13,000 donors gave from their hearts to ‘build for today and provide for tomorrow.’ Their gifts honor our priests, both present and future, and demonstrate their commitment to upholding the importance of the ministerial priesthood in our Church.

We read in the New Testament that God declares, “Behold, I make all things new.” (Rev. 21:5) Our God is a God of surprises. Every day we witness an unfinished creation that evolves, changes, and brings forth abundant grace.

Thank you for being a partner, working hand in hand with the Catholic Community Foundation in the transformative work of the Church. May God bless you and those you love.

Your brother in Christ,
Most Reverend Edward C. Malesic, JCL
