Catholic Charities Appeal Announces $110,000 Matching Gift to Celebrate Their 110th Anniversary

Posted September 13, 2022

The 2022 Catholic Charities Appeal has received a $110,000 matching gift from the Humble Heart – Gentle Soul Foundation in celebration of Catholic Charities’ 110th anniversary. Because of this generous gift, the faithful of the Diocese of Cleveland will be able to have their gifts to the 2022 Catholic Charities Appeal matched dollar for dollar up to $110,000.

Through this matching gift, the Appeal, which runs through December 31, 2022, and still faces lingering effects of the pandemic, hopes to receive a boost toward its $14M annual goal. The Appeal raises funds for critical issues such as fighting addiction, serving people who are hungry and homeless, assisting seniors and families through urban family centers, and providing educational and social engagements for people with disabilities.

"We are most grateful to the Humble Heart – Gentle Soul Foundation and the donors who choose to generously support their brothers and sisters in need throughout Northeast Ohio,” says Patrick Grace, executive director at the Catholic Community Foundation, managers of the Appeal. “We are also grateful to our pastors and volunteers, whose efforts continue to bring awareness to Catholic Charities and the important work they accomplish. The Catholic Charities Appeal is a principal source of funding for critical social services that reach people in all eight counties of the diocese.”

Since its humble beginnings in 1912, Catholic Charities has become one of the largest social services organizations in Northeast Ohio. It offers more than 150 services at 60 locations to nearly 400,000 individuals annually, regardless of their faith affiliation.

“Since our founding, we have continued to meet people no matter their background,” says Patrick Gareau, Catholic Charities president and CEO. “Our longevity results from adapting to the needs of the communities we serve. God willing, we will continue to help the people of Northeast Ohio for 110 more years!”

On October 14, Bishop Edward Malesic will celebrate the 100thanniversary with a special Mass of thanksgiving in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, followed by an awards luncheon. The next class of the Catholic Charities “Hall of Hope” will be inducted: Father Joseph McNulty, Sister Corita Ambro, Thomas and Margaret Lynch (posthumous), Phil Maynard (posthumous), Msgr. Frederich Mohan (posthumous) and the Sisters of Humility of Mary.

To make a celebatory gift that will be matched dollar for dollar, text "CCHope" to "41444" or visit www.catholiccommunity.org/match. Donors can also call 216-696-6525 x1910 to donate.
