#weGiveCatholic returns for sixth year of Northeast Ohio’s Online Day of Catholic Giving

Posted November 12, 2021

On Nov. 30, the Catholic Community Foundation of the Diocese of Cleveland will ask people to come together as one community for the sixth year of #weGiveCatholic, Northeast Ohio’s Online Day of Catholic Giving.

This annual crowdfunding event takes place each year on Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.

For 24 hours, individuals will be able to show their support at www.wegivecatholic.org for over 200 parishes, schools, Catholic Charities sites and programs, and other Catholic nonprofits that serve communities of all faiths, races, and backgrounds throughout Northeast Ohio.

There will be a livestream during the day available at www.wegivecatholic.org to feature impact stories from participating organizations and announce matching gift opportunities.

Last year’s campaign raised a record-breaking $3.1 million for 235 participating organizations thanks to 11,564 generous donors, an increase of $1.3 million from 2019.

“Amidst a pandemic and a major snowstorm, the faithful of the Diocese of Cleveland came together with a spirit of gratitude, generosity, and trust for the Catholic organizations that make a difference in the community,” Patrick Grace, Executive Director of the Catholic Community Foundation, said of last year’s campaign.

On Nov. 30, organizations will enter into a friendly competition to gain supporters and pull prizes from the $62,500 prize pool throughout the day.

There will be many opportunities for matching gifts, including $80,000 for tuition assistance for the 75 registered Catholic schools – 17 high schools and 58 elementary schools – and a $15,000 gift sponsored by Boyd Watterson to all organizations.

The Catholic Community Foundation hopes to build on the momentum of the past six years of Catholic Giving. Since its inception in 2016, #weGiveCatholic has seen an increase in the number of participating organizations, donors, and total amounts raised each year, for a grand total of over $7.4 million raised.

Bishop Edward C. Malesic invites all people in Northeast Ohio to unite for this day of generosity: “It seems more important than ever to come together as a community to support and celebrate the Catholic organizations that have shaped our souls with their works of education, formation, worship, and charity.”
