Diocese of Cleveland Awards $4 Million in Tuition Assistance to Catholic School Students

Posted January 15, 2022

The Catholic Community Foundation of the Diocese of Cleveland has distributed $3,012,650 to the Office of Catholic Education to provide diocesan tuition assistance to approximately 4,000 students attending Catholic schools throughout the Diocese.

The distribution was funded through the Catholic Education Endowment Trust (CEET), proceeds from Faith & Values Appeal for Catholic Education, and other fundraising initiatives supported through the generosity of people in the eight-county Diocese of Cleveland (Ashland, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Summit, and Wayne).

Additional funds to benefit students and their access to Catholic education have also been distributed for this school year. Special scholarships totaling $196,000, Fund A Dream scholarships, with a large portion raised at the 2022 Alleluia Ball, totaling $525,000, and School Employee Tuition Assistance Fund allocation of $315,671 bring the total for this year’s tuition assistance to $4,049,321, the largest distribution in recent history.

The Most Rev. Edward C. Malesic, Bishop of Cleveland, says, “Leading students to grow to become virtuous, compassionate, well-rounded, faithful, and caring adults is at the heart of every Catholic school. The generous people providing financial support for tuition assistance are impacting young lives in profound ways.”

More than 38,000 students are enrolled in 107 Catholic elementary and secondary schools in the Diocese of Cleveland, representing the fifth largest private school system in the United States and the largest school system (public or private) in the State of Ohio.
