We help foster faith-based stewardship in the community for the spiritual, educational and charitable needs of all. On Tuesday, December 1, the Catholic Community Foundation of the Diocese of Cleveland will ask people across Northeast Ohio to come together as one community in support of #weGiveCatholic, Northeast Ohio’s Online Day of Catholic Giving. This annual crowdfunding event celebrates its fifth year of Giving Catholic on Giving Tuesday, a global day of generosity that raises awareness and encourages philanthropy worldwide.
During the 24-hour #weGiveCatholic event, individuals will have the opportunity to donate to 235 participating schools, parishes, ministries, Catholic Charities sites and programs, and other Catholic nonprofits online at www.weGiveCatholic.org.
Many of the region’s notable Catholic organizations participate in #weGiveCatholic, including Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), Society for St. Vincent de Paul, West Side Catholic Center, Camp Christopher, Catholic Charities, and St. Augustine Health Ministries. John Carroll University and Borromeo Seminary are also participating, as are many Catholic elementary and high schools. Parishes from every corner of the eight-county Diocese of Cleveland will also be accepting donations through weGiveCatholic.org.
Last year, #weGiveCatholic raised more than $1.8 million in 24 hours, and since its inception has raised $4.1+ million for participating Catholic organizations. During the 2020 event, organizations will enter into a “friendly” competition to gain the most supporters and win from a $61,000 prize pool.
Bishop Edward C. Malesic invites all people in Northeast Ohio to unite for this day of generosity. “It seems more important than ever to come together as a community to support and celebrate the Catholic organizations that have shaped our souls with their works of education, formation, worship, and charity,” says Bishop Malesic.
