Gary and Carolyn support Catholic Charities and the ministries of the Diocese of Cleveland by using a Qualified Charitable Distribution. This allows them to gift part of the required minimum distribution from their Individual Retirement Account to the Catholic Community Foundation.
"When our tax preparer said that we could reduce our taxable income by writing checks to Catholic Charities directly from our IRA, that got my attention," says Gary. "This approach reduces our taxable income dollar for dollar." "This is a great way to sustain our commitment to the Church and also get a benefit," says Carolyn. "It's one stop giving."
Gary and Carolyn have been giving to Catholic Charities on a regular basis for many years. They value that their donations to Catholic Charities go to support nearly 400,000 people in need in all eight counties of the Diocese of Cleveland.
"It was very easy to set up a special checking account with our financial advisor to write checks from our IRA," says Gary. "Catholic Charities is near and dear to our hearts," adds Carolyn. "We are happy to give."
