Members of the Heritage Society as well as faithful donors to diocesan ministries gathered October 23 for Mass, dinner and introduction of the new members at the Center for Pastoral Ministry in Wickliffe.
The Heritage Society consists of people who have included either their parish or a diocesan ministry in their estate plan and disclosed that information to the diocese.
This year’s celebration began with a Mass celebrated by Bishop Malesic, a Heritage Society member, in the recently renovated Mary, Mother of the Good Shepherd Chapel followed by a dinner in the CPL Founder's Room.
Heritage Society inductions took place after dinner and heard brief remarks from Andrew Rebholz, chair of the Catholic Community Foundation Board of Directors, and Patrick Grace, executive director of the foundation. Andrew Rebholz welcomed the group stating “We are here to celebrate and thank you for your commitment to the Church. Thank you for all you have done to pass on the faith to the next generation and to help the Church in its mission.”
In his remarks, Bishop Malesic reminded the Heritage Society members "that much is required of a person entrusted with much and still more is required of those entrusted with more." He said there are two types of stewardship: goods and grace.
"The good news of the Gospel is the treasure of the Church and we must be good stewards of it. What do we do with this gift? We share it. That is the stewardship of grace, being a good steward of the Gospel. We must share it with others so they can share in the grace of God."
Thirty-eight new members were welcomed to the society.
